The Dunlap Eagles boys golf team opened the 2018 season with an 8th place finish in the 21 team field at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. Senior Max Cook’s opening nine score of one under led to a final round 18 hole score of 75, giving him the the low round of the day for the Eagles. Cook finished in a tie for 10th in the 125 player field. Fellow senior Matt Leist birdied two of his the last four holes to post a round of 78. Also scoring for the Eagles were senior Ben Cekander, who carded an 8 over par 80, and freshman Jack Cekander who also finished with a final score of 80. Rounding out for the Eagles was Junior Kyle Fairfield and sophomore Eli Lanser who both fired rounds of 81.
Dunlap posted a team score of 313 placing 8th in the field. The Eagles finished ahead of Mid Illini Conference adversaries Morton (321), Metamora (346), and Limestone (402). Quincy Notre Dame and University High, both top ten finishers in the 2017 2A state championship, took 2nd and 3rd with scores of 301 and 306. Local rival Peoria Notre Dame took the team title shooting 295.
The Eagles will tee it up again Saturday in the Limestone Coyote Creek Classic. Tee times are slated for 8:30 at Coyote Creek golf course in Bartonville.
