The third time was the charm for the Morton Potters and Dunlap Eagles. After having two previous match dates rained out, the teams were able to come together to complete their conference dual match. The visiting Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, after sweeping the singles matches. The Potters rebounded, however, winning 2 of 3 doubles matches to close out the match and the conference season.

“Morton is a great team to end with, because they’re solid from top to bottom and they help to elevate your game,” said Dunlap coach Pat Gornik. “Our guys know their guys pretty well, and vice versa, so they can push you in ways that other teams may not always be able to. Because of that, we were forced to adapt our game plan. Thankfully our guys responded to the challenges today and closed out a tremendous conference season. It’s not often that teams have been able to achieve the level of success that our guys have attained this year. We’re happy to build on that and hopefully take the next step forward at Sectionals and State.”

The Eagles will squeeze in one more match, against Bloomington Central Catholic, on Tuesday. Sectional meetings are held Wednesday evening and sectional play begins on Friday. Peoria schools, as well as the majority of the Mid-Illini (except Pekin (2A), and Metamora & Washington (both in Ottawa Sectional)) will be playing at Dunlap on Friday.
